The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is a voluntary association of independent, autonomous and equal federations, industry, branch trade unions and unions and is the largest non-governmental organization in Bulgaria, with more than 280,000 trade union members. CITUB is a continuation of 140 years of history of the trade union movement in Bulgaria and continues to fulfill its mission with dignity today.
CITUB has two structures - horizontal and vertical. In the horizontal structure are located its constituent 35 federations, trade unions and unions and a number of associate members. The vertical includes the territorial structures - Regional and Municipal Councils throughout the country, whose activities are coordinated by the CITUB headquarters. They play a significant role in the development of local social dialogue and in supporting the activities of over 5,000 trade unions in the country.
A particularly important place in the development of trade union policies is occupied by the research and scientific developments of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research. One of the most significant studies of ISTUR is "Life Support". In recent years, there has been growing interest in another ongoing study, “Digitalization of Labor”. Some of the available developments of the institute are available in our digital library.
The past 30 years have witnessed a significant presence of CITUB in the socio-political space in Bulgaria, as well as among the European and international trade union community. With its actions and positions CITUB has become an engine for the constitution of the new system of industrial relations and social partnership and has an indisputable contribution to the development of industrial democracy in Bulgaria.
In addition to the CITUB website, it has its own e-magazine, Syndi Trud, which contains important news about working people, analytical materials, interviews, galleries and more. It is the only magazine in Bulgaria that has such specific content and audience.
